This print is from a pencil drawing I made and shows the Fender Stratocaster electric guitar, affectionally known as the ’Strat’. It has been continuously manufactured by the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation since 1954 and its distinctive body shape was revolutionary when it was introduced as it was nothing like the earlier acoustic models. The shape of the Stratocaster’s body was designed to be comfortable and to balance perfectly when playing standing up with a strap around the player's neck.
The body was normally made of Ash or Alder and the neck was normally Maple with a Rosewood or Maple fingerboard. It has a very distinctive shaped headstock with the tuners arranged in a single line along one side. Most models have three pickups mounted in a plastic pick guard with a selector switch, two tone controls and one volume knob. However, there are many variations on this set-up as most players want to customise their own arrangement to suit their playing style.
Many well known rock musicians play the Stratocaster, for both live and studio performances, including Eric Clapton, Dave Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Mark Knopfler and Buddy Holly. The Stratocaster is one of the most iconic electric guitars of all time and many a young guitar player has dreamt of owning a bright red ’Strat’.
Other musical instruments are available in this series including a Gibson SJ-200 acoustic guitar (see details on this site), a Violin, a Cello, a Piano, a Clarinet, a Trumpet and a Saxophone. Please contact me for a further information.
