This print is from a pencil drawing I made and shows the Gibson J-200 acoustic guitar which the Gibson Guitar Corporation first put into production in 1937. To begin with it was called the Super Jumbo but changed its name in 1939 to the Super Jumbo 200, replacing the Gibson Advanced Jumbo. The name was eventually changed to the J-200 in 1955.

The early models were made of Rosewood and were highly prized by collectors but due to the weak post-depression economy and wartime austerity, demand for this high end guitar was very low and only a few models were built. The most distinctive features of the standard models of the J-200 are the ‘moustache’ shaped bridge and the large pick guard which has a flowers and vine decoration. Gibson makes many different models in the J-200 series including the SJ-200 Studio, the SJ-200 Standard and the SJ-200 Custom. The SJ-200 Studio, with its Walnut rather than Maple back and sides, is the entry level model in the series. The SJ-2000 Standard, with its Grover tuners, gold hardware, Rosewood fingerboard and bridge and mother-of-pearl inlays is next in line. The high-end model, with its abalone inlays, an older style Gibson logo and upgraded case is the most expensive in the range.

Other musical instruments are available in this series including a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar (see details on this site), a Violin, a Cello, a Piano, a Clarinet, a Trumpet and a Saxophone. Please contact me for a further information.
